El plan de trabajo, que fue acordado por los Miembros de la OMC en una reunión del Comité de Obstáculos Técnicos al Comercio (OTC) celebrada los días 10 a 12 de noviembre, incluye una serie de debates sobre la preparación frente a las pandemias, el cambio climático y la contaminación producida por los plásticos. El plan de trabajo forma parte del examen trienal del Acuerdo OTC. Los Miembros examinaron asimismo 89 preocupaciones comerciales específicas —de las cuales 25 se plantearon por primera vez— que abarcaban cuestiones relacionadas con el etiquetado, las pruebas y la seguridad de los productos. Egypt – Halal Certification Measure, based on Egyptian Standard ES 4249/2014 General Requirements for Halal Food According to Islamic Sharia Halal certification requirements Proposed Measure United States Egypt recently introduced new requirements on Halal certification for the import of all food and beverages to Egypt. According to the available information, only one company would be authorized to certify compliance with the halal requirements in Egypt (ISEG Halal) and the procedures foreseen seem to be quite costly and burdensome. In addition, there is currently a discussion ongoing on whether all halal products would need to be certified by ISEG Halal, independently of whether they are labelled as "halal" or not. It seems that the process has started with dairy products already on 1 October 2021 and will be extended to all other food products and beverages as of January 2022.
